Sign up now for the X'Aim™ FREE plan
Start with a FREE plan and move up as you need more populations, animal records or features!
Paying plans are on a subscription basis, with per-month pricing and billing. By starting with a FREE plan you can experience X'Aim and upgrade to the right plan for you and your breeding program!
Animal records include the active herd and pedigree records
X'Aim records animals for two reasons: Animals in the active herd are available for breeding. Pedigree animals are what X'Aim uses to keep track of parent-child, sibling-sibling and other relationships between animals. Both are required to avoid inbreeding. Small flocks or herds may take several years to reach the FREE limit of 50 animal records, because it may take some time to build up the pedigree depth. Paying plans let you record more breeding animals, more pedigree depth, which is important to get good estimates of inbreeding.
Populations; herds, flocks or gaggles?
Call them what you like, but before we know what species you have, we call them populations. Basically, they are your herd or your flock or your gaggle! And it's on the basis of the animals included in this population that estimates of inbreeding are calculated.
Users can create animal populations up to the limit provided by their plan; 1 on the FREE plan, more on the others. All accounts come with a bonus Example population for trying new X'Aim features. You can modify your Example population, but we will be updating it every month to show you new features and how to get the best out of your X'Aim account. We recommend starting by playing with the Example and when you're confident to enter your own data, go for it!
Mating recommendations
Mating recommendations are easy to generate and are optimised by our mating engine to balance the inbreeding in the offspring of the recommended matings and the overall relationships between animals, minimising each.
Each time you request a new mating recommendation, a mating list is created automatically for you that lists the recommended matings and the estimation of the inbreeding coefficient for offspring from that mating. Each plan has a limit of how many mating lists you can create. (On the FREE plan it is 5 mating lists.) .
Basic herd statistics
This report summarises the number of available and unavailable (pedigree, too young, sick, etc.) animals you have entered records for, and how many of them are male and how many are female. This helps you manage your animals and selections, and set up your mating recommendations.
Inbreeding and coancestry minimisation
When you request a new mating recommendation, our algorithms work through your population's animals using the complete pedigree you have included. Using information you provided about how many matings to make, and the maximum usage of males, our algorithms then search for the combination of animals that results in a balance between the average inbreeding in the offspring of the recommended matings and the predicted coancestry or relationships among the animals that would result from those matings. This helps to avoid inbreeding now and in the future!
